Music Monday: Old Postcards are Romantically Full of Fact

Happy Monday All!

If you don't know who those attractive humans are in the picture above, allow me to introduce you. They are (from left to right) Kate Cooper and Damon Cox of the band An Horse. They come from the land down under, and are finishing up their second album due out this April. (Yours truly simply cannot WAIT!)

Their first album, titled, "Rearrange Beds," has been on repeat in my car for weeks now. I just love it. Their sound is raw, but at it's core it's classic rock. Tracks like, "Camp Out," and "Postcards" have infectious chords that make me start jumping around like I'm in a one-woman mosh pit, accompanied by lyrics that make my eyes water. Not many artists can make me feel that way. In fact, no other artist makes me feel that way.

I got the chance to see them live last year when they toured with the very lovely and talented Kaki King. I was jumping around in my own one-woman-moshing-kind-of-way, not caring if I embarrassed the friend I went with.

Here are the videos for the two songs I mentioned:

Up first is "Camp Out"

Next is "Postcards," ENJOY!

If you like what you hear you should check out their website: http://www.anhorse.com/
It's got all sorts of good stuff like, a clip of a BRAND NEW SONG off of the new album "Walls."
(Or if you sign up for the mailing list, you get the FULL song for FREE. All you need is an e-mail address.)

They also have a Twitter, you can follow them with their Twitter Name: @anhorse
(It's worth it, they post funny things to each other. :] )

Welp, that's all for today folks!
I hope you have a most radical rest of the week!
Catch you on the flip side!
Much love,
XoXo

Feel Good Friday: Part of Where I'm Going, is Knowing Where I'm Coming From

Happy Friday Readers!

I'm so happy today is finally Friday for two reasons, first, it happens to be my day off from work, and second, (and more importantly!) because I get to post a feel good tune for all of YOU!

This week's Feel Good Friday song is from the year 2004 and by an artist named Gavin DeGraw. I thought his song, "I Don't Want To Be" was perfect for today.

I could say all sorts of clichés of how you should be yourself because everyone else is taken, blah, blah, blah. But, this song does that in a way that isn't cliché, or cheesy. In fact, it's empowering.
So, take a listen and let this song be the sound track to your day.
ENJOY!

Also, before I go... Now, it's no secret I respect and admire Tegan and Sara. (Right? As if I keep needing to remind you.)
But, it was brought to my attention by a friend that Tegan and Sara covered Gavin's big hit and I thought since that was today's feel good song, I'd share with you that as well!
ENJOY!

Have a lovely weekend all!
See you Monday!
Much Love,
xoxo

music monday: just the way you are

happy monday readers!

i'm sure you've all heard of bruno mars. i mean, it's impossible not to these days, am i right?!
his song, "just the way you are," makes my little heart melt. anybody else out there like to pretend it was written about them? no? just me?

not sure what it is about bruno, perhaps its his fedora hats, plaid shirts, dimples, or his smooth voice? maybe it's his catchy beats, or lyrics that pull at your heart strings? all of the above? i don't know. whatever it is, i hope he continues to make music for a long time.

if for some strange reason you've never seen the "just the way you are video," here you go! and for those of you that have, perhaps you need a refresher on how the song goes? ;]

then after you've watched and appreciated "just the way you are," you can check out "grenade," which, he didn't write about me, obviously.
enjoy!

have a most superb week everyone!
i'll be catching up with you lovely folks on friday!
much love!
xoxo

feel good friday: love you oh so well

happy friday all!

yes, my friends, that photo is of dave matthews. i'm coming out to you all as a dave fan.

have i mentioned in this blog anywhere this is a judge free zone? no? well, it is. so, take your judge-caps off and put them away. you won't be needing them here. :]

this week's feel good friday tune is a song that my roommate and best friend in college used to play in our room all the time. i fell inlove with it the first time she played it. the song is called, "oh," its off of dave matthews' solo album "some devil."

do any of you folks out there have a song that pops up from time to time at random points in your life? perhaps points in your life where you need it and you didn't realize you did until that moment?

well, this song, is one of those songs for me. i forget about it, and it just keeps finding its way back to me, when i least expect it, and when i need it most.

it's like an old friend you lost contact with finding you again and giving you a hug telling you they are here with you, and it'll be okay.

enjoy!

and if it's all the same to you i love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow, i love you oh so well, enough to fill up heaven overflow and fill hell. love you oh so well.

that's it for today all.
be safe in your travels!
have a super weekend, and i'll have something for you monday!
much love,
xoxo

music monday: you don't know me

happy monday readers!

now you may be asking yourself, "what do these three lovely and talented ladies have in common?" (besides the fact they are lovely and talented ladies, of course!)

well, since you asked... regina spektor, sara bareilles and missy higgins have all sang with the one and only ben folds, specifically the song titled, "you don't know me."

i was listening to my tegan and sara pandora station last week, (typical) and "you don't know me" came on. i had completely forgotten about my love for the sound of ben folds' voice until that moment. regina spektor sings in the original album version of the song, but, sara bareilles and missy higgins have joined him on stage while he was touring to help sing along.

i adore regina, sara and missy, and just wanted to share with you each of them singing "you don't know me" alongside ben folds. you can pick your favorite, but, it's also okay to love each version equally! :]

enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

ben folds & regina spektor

ben folds and missy higgins

well folks, that's it for today's music monday post.
i'll catch ya at the end of the week for a feel good tune.
(it's a good one, i promise!)
till then, have a wonderful week!
much love,
xoxo

feel good friday: you control where you go

happy friday readers!

last night before bed i was searching and searching for a feel good tune to share with all of you. nothing felt quite right till i landed on today's song, which is "steer" by missy higgins. you may recall this tune was a part of my thanksgiving play list, but i love this song so dearly that i believe it should have its very own feel good friday post!

the first time i heard this song i got goosebumps all over and by the second verse i began to cry. not due to sadness, but by how beautifully empowering this song truly is.

if you're struggling right now, listen to this song and just let it wash over you. it probably won't be the solution to your struggle, but it may help ignite a spark in you that will at least make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. (which is what feel good fridays are all about!)
ENJOY!

one more thing before i go. i didn't do this on purpose, but, perhaps it was subconsciously, i don't know. missy higgins hails from australia. (not sure if you could tell by the adorable accent!) and right now australia is facing some terrible flooding. i mean, i've seen some footage and some pictures, and it's terrifying. people's homes are being destroyed, as well as the wildlife's habitats. here's a video a friend tweeted recently:

i'm not asking you to fly down there and help, or donate lots of money, but, if you could just spread awareness about the terrible flooding.

or, if you do have a dollar to spare here's a site that you can donate to:

to the folks in australia, i'm sending my kindest, warmest thoughts to you and yours.

thanks for reading everyone.
much love,
xoxo

music monday: can we go wrong?

good morning all!

i hope i find you well this second week of 2011!
quick story: last week, (thursday to be exact) i paid my bills, paid off my credit card and scheduled an oil change for the car.
i felt so accomplished, like, for a quick moment i had my life in order.

i know, i know, i know. it's music monday, what does any of this have to do with music?
well, after that exciting morning i got myself in the car and headed to work. i was still buzzing from my "adult-like" morning and wanted to listen to some music that matched my mood. i tried the radio, and nothing felt right. so, i searched my cds in the car and came across my (signed) copy of hesta prynn's, "can we go wrong?" (EP) from when i saw her open up for (you guessed it) tegan and sara at higher ground in vermont.

i put the cd in and immediately began to dance it out in my car seat. i love every single song on that EP. honest! my personal favorite is the first song, titled, "you winding me up," and coming in a real close second is "can we go wrong?" (this song has a music video, and it's really good, so watch that right here)

this EP has crazily rad beats and is just super fun. the digital download is only $3.99, you'd be bonkers not to get it. bonkers i say!

if you found yourself getting into a groove whilst taking a listen to the song above, i'll provide a few links below so you can get some more info on hesta:
you can check out her website http://hestaprynn.tumblr.com/
or "like" her on the facebook: http://www.facebook.com/hestaprynn

if she's coming to a venue near you, i have one word for you: GO.
i'll catch you on the flipside (aka: friday!)
much love,
xoxo

feel good friday: just be yourself

happy friday readers!

this week's feel good friday tune is a real blast from my past. i remember listening to this song on my cd walkman on the way to basketball games when i was in junior high. (if any of you know what a cd walkman is high-five yourself.)

i remember thinking finally a song that gets me! because, i was always a little different, always a little awkward, and this song celebrated that and told me not to change. that it was okay to be different.

honestly i can't believe this song is a decade old, but, its the truth.
(and even though it's a decade old, the song and it's message are still super relevant.)
without further adieu, today's feel good tune is: "the middle" by jimmy eat world.

what i love about this music video is the (very symbolic/metaphoric) story it tells: a fully clothed boy is walking around a party where everyone is literally in their underwear. he feels self conscious of the fact he's different, due to the stares and the fact that everyone is in their underwear. he continues wandering around the house full of half naked people and finally ends up in an empty bedroom with a big decision to make- to take off his clothes and fit in like everyone else? or to keep his clothes on and embrace his difference? i don't want to ruin it for you, so, take a look and see what happens!

doesn't it warm your heart that he ends up seeing a girl who is trying to make that same decision?! they both find themselves about to give into "the norm" and begin stripping down to their undies. but, then the see each other and put their clothes back on. they embrace the fact they're not like everyone else!

so, stay true to yourself folks! it may be tough out there. perhaps you are a fully clothed individual in a sea of people in their underwear. there's hope! keep looking, there will be someone else fully clothed who is looking for a pal like you!

until then i want to leave you with this: if you ever feel like you need a hug, you can always come back here and get a virtual one from me to you!

have a lovely weekend!
i'll catch up with ya on monday!
much love,
xoxo

music monday: everytime i go to sleep

happy monday readers!

do we have any fans of the very funny web show "this just out" hosted by the one and only liz feldman?! (don't know who she is? click here to find out! http://www.thelizfeldman.com/)

i only bring her and her fabulously funny show up because one episode about a year or so ago she had a guest named holly miranda on. sound familiar to anyone? (particularly any tegan and sara fans?) this is because holly miranda toured with the lovely canadian sisters on their first u.s. tour for sainthood beginning in northampton, mass on february 12th 2010. (why do i know this? i was at that show in the 2nd row, mere feet away from the stage. no big deal.)

but, liz feldman was the first to introduce holly's music to me. it was love at first note. that girl can sing! her voice is unique in the most enchanting way.
here's the clip of holly miranda on "this just out" hosted by liz feldman:

so, because of this chance viewing, i became a holly fan, and then when tegan and sara announced her as one of their openers for that tour, (steel train being the other) i was completely beside myself.

i've decided i can't keep holly miranda's music all to myself anymore. i want to share her with all of you!

my personal favorite of hers is a song called, "everytime i go to sleep," i find it breathtakingly haunting.
ENJOY!

if you like what you hear, you can find her on twitter: @hollymiranda
you can "like" her on facebook: holly miranda
or her official website: http://www.hollymiranda.com/

so many ways to find out more info!
well, that's it for music monday, i hope you enjoyed the selection!
i'll catch ya on friday!
have a wonderful week folks!
much love,
xoxo
